Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC has a Combined Construction and Operating license from the NRC for two AP1000 Reactor plants at William States Lee III Nuclear Station William States Lee III Nuclear Station, Unit 1 | NRC.gov. With Vogtle units 3 and 4 online there has been renewed interest in building more of this design.
Jigar Shah on X: "For future AP1000s, utilities are saying they value having a complete constructed design and the ability to “be third” (instead of having to be first with a new design) The #InflationReductionAct includes multiple incentives for the #nuclear sector. https://t.co/xXkloD65fl" / X
This question is asking if Duke will officially announce its intention to begin construction of one or both of these AP1000 units in the calendar year 2024. I will resolve this based on official company or government announcements.
