This question is best meant for speculation, due to some extremely rapid development happening at the moment. Gaussian Splats look like they may finally be the successor to triangles in rendering, in terms of fidelity, extreme computational efficiency, and industry interest.

It's only a matter of time, if this development trend gains momentum, until hardware develops to take advantage of this even more.
