The last 300 K pitchers that the league has seen were Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole, both of whom played for the Houston Astros during the 2019 season.
Spencer Strider came close during the 2023 season, with 281 Ks in only 186.2 innings pitched, and he is coming off of an injury-shortened 2024 season.
This market resolves YES if a major league pitcher strikes out 300 or more hitters during the 2025 regular season. An interleague trade will NOT affect the total since a this market does not track a league leader statistic that requires a minimum number of innings pitched or plate appearances.
Update 8/15: The three pitchers mentioned last month at the All-Star Break with updated totals and projections:
Tarik Skubal - 190 Ks through 123 GP, proj 250 K
Zack Wheeler - 189 Ks through 121 GP, proj 253 K
Garrett Crochet - 188 Ks through 122 GP, proj 250 K
Any of these three guys would have to average 14 Ks over the 8-10 starts they have left, considering they all stay healthy and work deep into games. Yeah, this one might bottom out.
Three pitchers reached the All-Star Break with 150+ strikeouts. I know the season is more than half over, but here is the rough projection based on the number of games these players have played, and, assuming they stay with the team they are with through the remainder of the season, the number they will finish with if they keep the same pace they've kept thus far and do not sustain an injury:
Garret Crochet, Red Sox - 160 Ks through 98 GP, proj 264 K
Zack Wheeler, Phillies - 154 Ks through 96 GP, proj 260 K
Tarik Skubal, Tigers - 153 Ks through 97 GP, proj 256 K
