Will I replace my ambiguously-damaged AirPods case by the end of May?

My AirPods were just ran over by at least one car in a parking lot. The left pod is fine—the right pod is not. But the case… is ambiguous!

The case appears to be charging fine—charging both itself and my left pod—and lighting up, making noises, showing up in Find My, not heating up. The top section is slightly twisted forward, maybe 0.5 mm.

I’m not especially troubled by the aesthetic damage—but I would be unpleasantly surprised if the case lit my pants on fire.

Right now, I’m inclined to replace the right pod and keep the case—but only if the case continues to function and does not pose a threat.

(All the components are new as of December 2024. Replacement case would cost $99, right pod $89, full new set ~$200.)

Should I replace the case? Or will it continue to function through the next few months and beyond?

(I will not trade on this market. The market may close early if I buy a replacement case before the close date.)

I’m more curious about “at least one” car. What happened?!

@GleamingRhino It would seem they took an ill-advised leap—out of my pockets and into the driving lane of a parking lot—and at which point the impact ejected the pods from the case, leaving the whole set unsupervised for about ten minutes until I noticed and could return to retrieve them.

The good news is, only two-thirds of the set seemed to have been actively run over! And then there’s the bad news….
