The next version of Ubuntu, 25.04 Plucky Puffin, will begin to replace the traditional GNU coreutils by new versions developed in Rust. While Rust prioritises security, efficiency and performance, this change also implies a difference in licensing, from GPL to MIT.

This market resolves YES if at least one other major Linux distribution (as listed by DistroWatch) officially announces plans to replace GNU coreutils with Rust-based alternatives by September 1, 2025.
