Will I, an iPhone user, like using an Android phone?

  • My current phone is iPhone 12 Pro.

  • I had multiple Android phones previously and did not like the experience.

  • An internet friend of mine argued Androids have much better UX now.

  • I am intrigued and willing to try using an equivalent Google Pixel phone for ~half a year.

  • If after half a year of using the android phone I conclude I generally like it better than the phone I currently have, this question will resolve as Yes, and as No if I did not.

  • N/A if preconditions aren't met (e.g. I did not buy a phone).

I just recently switched from Android (Samsung) to Apple

Apple has much better battery (maybe just because it's new but it comfortably lasts a day unlike Samsung)

I really miss the customization (everythings too big on iPhone. I used to have Nova Launcher with 6 columns of apps, Apple only has 4. I was able to change the dp to 457 using developer tools I think it's only 375 on apple. The keyboard is worse. Android keyboards had all the special characters. Can't install apks. Might have to look more into shortcuts on Apple but it's not that intuitive. Can't even double tap power to open camera. I think the data is worse. Hotspots were so much smoother on Samsung. Also Link to Windows has way less functionality. I used to have cross platform copy paste. Oh there's no clipboard on apple. Also the notifications are weird and the volume controls are wonky. On android there's media and then the calls. The mute switch on apple turns off some sounds I want and makes notifications audible which I don't want. I also turned off animations. YouTube vanced was nice while it existed.)

I guess FaceID is nice when it works but when it doesn't it's annoying. I don't like the autorotate. I could go on.

Apple is basically sacrificing a ton of functionality (which only 10% of users like me value) for a more smooth experience. The issue is Samsung is also removing functionality (SD card, Samsung pay being identical to credit card, TV remote, health sensors, Headphone jack, 1440p on base model, curved screens) to be more like apple so I thought that If Samsungs trying to copy apple why not get the real thing (the resale value and trade-in deals much better on Apple too)

Ight end of rant

@niksaak, are you still active on this site and able to provide an update?

Apple has long been the hardware king and Google, the software/UI king, but the gap has been closing. If you’re not sensitive to Android shaming and you’re not OCD enough about privacy/security to be the type of person to use, say, Google Advanced Protection, I’m guessing you’ll like Android more. This is assuming ofc that you get a similarly tiered Android, like a Pixel 7.

Apple is absolutely proprietary!
