According to this website: https://bsky.jazco.dev/stats ...
Bluesky has 15.6m users today (mid November 2024), compared with X's ~550m. To me it seems plausible they could dramatically increase that. The last 2 weeks have apparently seen 1m/week. If something like that continues, they should break 50 million. That starts to seem like a twitter competitor to me.

@DanRobinson I'm curious as to what the users per day tally averages out to. Think it's interesting there doesn't seem to be qny statistics site making a graph out of these...
@Marnix I'm also expecting it to balloon again. Maddow's still been consistently plugging it and basically every single artist I know is now completely leaving the site because of new "remix this image" AI features.
@Marnix I closed my bet because day by day it’s clearer to me that there will be no single winner of this short post war. The market share has splintered between X, Threads. Bluesky, Truth Social and Farcaster already, and a sizeable amount of people have left the space already for greener, nicer pastures (Substack, Discords, etc).
It will reach 30M next week:

@HamishTodd interpolation based on the same dataset used for resolution: https://bsky-users.theo.io/
To hit 50m by September, bluesky needs to add about 1.15 new users per second.
@cosmicmiskatonic if this rate continues it will blow past 50 million. Why did the rate increase though?
@Shai might be because Facebook have loudly declared that they also intend to really suck hence forth - threads exodus joining the twitter exodus?
@Shai that's my hypothesis based on 0 research, and having not asked any users of facebook or threads
@Bayesian yeah - I mean, do you know anyone who posts things on threads? Lol.
Could also just be that the more people move to bluesky the less worthwhile twitter becomes[^1]. If that's the case we could see the rate of change increase for a while longer and then tail off once twitter is fully equivalent to truth social.

@Shai I'm guessing it's because inauguration day is nearing + Europeans. Not sure though. This doesn't change my odds much if its mostly due to that
@Bayesian last time I looked at that site growth was around 0.79. Something happened, and my current hypothesis is Meta’s change from centralised to decentralised moderation using Community Notes.
